The Battle for Dalesbury |
|
April 15 2012 |
The group makes their final preparations as they wait for the zombie horde to
attack Dalesbury. Major Morgan estimates that the zombie horde will arrive some
time after midnight and from the last reconnaissance report the zombie horde is
so large that the town does not even have enough bullets to kill all the
zombies, this battle will end in hand-to-hand combat.
Drake, Amanda, the little 3 year old Oksana, Dr. House, and the two rescued
women from the warehouse all stake out Mayor Kwame’s house waiting for revenge.
The church with the newly installed safe room is near the town’s makeshift walls
and the rest of the group is there. Parker in a tree with the two rocket
launchers. Taylor the Tool Guy is up in the church bell tower with a rifle. Noot
is inside the church with a small crowd of town non-combatants. Michael, Duncan
and Bubba are stationed in front of the church guarding the town walls by the
church. As they wait the sheriff drives up in the police car, he wants to talk
to Parker. He has his badge well polished; a pair of loaded pistols on his hips
and he is carrying a shot gun. He tells Parker “I am very sorry miss but I could
not locate those fellows that hurt you like that. But on a good note those
bastards are not going to live through the night.”
As the sheriff and Parker finish their talk, gun fire is heard from 5 or 6
blocks away towards the center of the town. The sheriff tells Michael, Duncan
and Bubba “Hop in the car boys we need to go check this out” The four of them
drive towards the ruckus. The sheriff pulls over when he sees 8 – 10 sprinters
half a block away eating some town guards that had tried to defend themselves
with their rifles. These sprinter zombies have somehow made it into the town.
Everyone gets out of the squad car and starts shooting. Michael and Duncan take
a little verbal “encouragement” from the sheriff to get out of the car. In the
shoot-out the sheriff shows that he has the right stuff. He hip shoots several
zombies right through the head with his pistols from 50 yards away and continues
to shoot them like ducks in a shooting gallery as they charge the group. As the
last of the zombies are killed a large plume of fire erupts from the front line.
The battle has started.
The battle was heroic, the town’s men held off the zombies for over 30 minutes
then the zombies finally took their toll against the living, men started dying.
As if fighting an overwhelming army of zombies was not hard enough for the town
their own men whom had been killed, rose up again as new recruits for the zombie
army. Parker from her viewpoint in the tree tried to determine if this group was
led by some zombie leader or if this was just a freaky large random zombie mob.
She could not see any zombie leaders and she lacked the military experience to
tell the difference of whether the zombie troops were in any organized
formations or organized battle positions.
The group held tight with the town’s men until the end of the battle, tossing
their last grenades into the approaching zombies, then they ran for the cars.
Drake, Amanda, 3 year old Oksana, Dr. House, and the two rescued women from the
warehouse were still at Mayor Kwame’s house and never saw him again. He must
have died in the battle.
The group drove for several hours away from Dalesbury before their cars ran out
of gas, it was time to walk. Taylor dismantled the cars and assembled a full
sized wagon, designed for two pullers, two pushers with seats for the wounded
and cargo space for their supplies. The group moved on down the road scavenging
for food and other supplies avoiding major cities.
One night while on Noot’s watch a giant of a farm boy zombie stepped out of the
darkness wielding a pitchfork. He tried to skewer little Noot and missed. She
screamed and woke up the rest of the group. The zombie absorbed hit after hit,
punch after punch, and shot after shot. It was finally Noot’s special Sailor
Moon Ballerina Kung Fu kick to the head that took him down.
